How 3D Scanning Spray Works

AESUB works by applying an ultra-thin, temporary matte layer for problematic surfaces. Its vanishing spray (Blue, Orange, Green, Yellow, Transparent, and Diamond) disappears via sublimation, leaving the object exactly as it was once—no cleaning required. AESUB White is the only semi-permanent spray and therefore requires cleaning.

Why Use AESUB 3D Scanning Spray?

AESUB 3D scanning spray provides a matte coating on hard-to-scan surfaces. The barrier helps turn hard-to-scan surfaces into ones the 3D scanner can read more easily, resulting in smoother, more precise 3D models than scanning the untreated object.

Compared to chalk, talc, or developer spray, AESUB 3D scanning spray requires:

  • No cleaning (when using vanishing sprays)
  • No residue in crevices
  • Controlled thickness
  • Safe for sensitive parts
  • Free of titanium dioxide
  • Free of pigments (except AESUB White)

Helps to Scan Difficult Surfaces

Shiny / Reflective

Challenge: Polished metal, mirrors, chrome, and glossy plastics reflect light away from the 3D scanner instead of back to it.

Result: Holes, noise, or missing data.

After Spray: Spray creates a matte, diffuse surface so that light reflects evenly back to the scanner.

Dark / Black

Challenge: Dark materials absorb most of the light.

Result: Weak or incomplete scans.

After Spray: Light-colored coating reflects more light for a more complete and even scan data.

Clear / Translucent

Challenge: Glass, clear plastic let light pass through or bend it.

Result: The object may appear invisible or distorted.

After Spray: Spray makes the surface opaque so the object becomes fully visible.

3D Scanning Sprays as Liquids

AESUB Yellow and AESUB Green are bulk solutions applied using an airbrush or spray gun.

AESUB Yellow for Metrology

AESUB Yellow is applied using an airbrush for small surfaces and provides a coating thickness of less than 1 micron, making it ideal for scanning parts that require the highest accuracy.

AESUB Green for Large Objects

AESUB Green is a vanishing scanning spray applied via spray gun, delivering a uniform, non-reflective finish on challenging surfaces and then disappearing automatically. Designed for large object scanning, it supports long scan times with even surface coverage.
